This is the second book Ive read about small town Trout Run, NY, and I'm ready for the next one! The storyline is well constructed with appealing (and some not so much), characters. The major law man, Frank Bennett, is strong but sensitive, and is respected and admired for his thoughtful investigative powers by the townsfolk. Ms Hubbard's writing flows well, and provides enough suspense to keep the reader engrossed. I recommend not only this book, but the others in the series.
This was my first read by this author but it won't be my last Frank Bennett is the story's hero and a cop. He is also very human and has to make tough decisions. This is an enticing tale that keeps you reading.....just one more chapter before I put it down. You actually get several stories in one. Each character is clearly drawn and woven into the story. A great tale! Highly recommended.
Well again I got the order of this series mixed up...doesn't matter. These are all good stories and I will go back and read the one I missed. Hate to seethe series end. Hopefully Ms Hubbard will have a new one soon.
So many people have good stories in them. It's such a shame that they cannot tell them with the compelling urgency that SW Hubbard can. You lucky students who have her for a teacher-listen well. If you haven't read any of these books yet, dive in. You are in for a treat.
I really loved reading this addition to the series. There are character updates to all of the characters that you've come to know. A little murder and drama thrown in. All in all, very interesting.
Being from Saranac Lake, which is so close to "Trout Run", I always feel biased when reading this series, but I really do enjoy all of these books. And I can say with all honesty that how she writes them us exactly how life is behind the blue line, in the 'Dacks. I really hope she writes more of these.
I always like the Frank Bennett books, and this is no exception. It's got a good mystery, great sub-plot and I don't want to put it down. My only complaint is that Hubbard appears to have either opted to forego a proof reader or has a new (and not very good) proof reader. There are a ton of simple errors that I've never noticed in her previous novels. I hope she gets this taken care of - it's an easy fix. It would have been a 5 star review had the errors not significantly detracted from the experience.
