A Horse On The Moon is a book of prose poems, fantasy flash fiction, and mini essays. Blending poetic narrative with a prose style the author calls dreamprose, many of these pieces are by turns hallucinatory, subversive, whimsical. Randolph lets his words fly free to dance, using images to enlighten and entertain, and a fresh boldness of utterance to liberate the imagination. (Please note the book currently being sold is the second edition. Besides revisions to several of the pieces, this edition has dropped the subtitle "And Other Dreamprose.")

A Horse On The Moon Max Randolph 9780615601496 Books Reviews

This moving collection of prose poetry is written by a shaman of words. It is a naked run through a forest, or dreams called while staring at night into the flames of of a fire and the intricate songs that can be told only by a visionary. I highly recommend this book when you want to celebrate with awareness all the ecstasy of inhabiting the human body and being truly alive!
In this collection, Max Randolph conducts a kaleidoscopic orchestra across varying scales in both minor and major keys. With immense imagery, he transforms the reader through a highly-crafted version of stream of conscious writing, a method he calls "dreamprose." This is psychedelic yet focused, a solid wall of color and sound. Never loud and simultaneously deafening, it's a fresh perspective in prose poetry. I can't recommend this collection enough.
Max Randolph's dreamprose is filled with magic and beauty. It is obvious that Randolph loves language. He uses words like an artist who uses paints to create unforgettable images. He tells stories from the Mind's Eye about uncharted worlds filled with mystery. Randolph exposes many secrets about the circumstance of being human and how to ride above the tumult of mundane reality that we all face. He offers the reader visions that lead to a better understanding of the journey we call life. Max Randolph speaks to us in metaphors to open the "doors of perception." I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a high regard for language and the imagination.
Beyond the stunning wordplay that explodes from the pages of "A Horse on the Moon and Other Dreamprose," poet Max Randolph invites the reader to enter his world; a world filled with fantastic environments populated by alluring people and other mysterious creatures who conduct their colorful yet often melancholy business of survival with certain charm, an element of danger and a supply of cautious optimism despite the inevitable challenges laid out. Once begun, the volume can not be set aside as this reader realized following an exhilarating ride that ended at "313 on a Friday morning" as a poem I was inspired to write lauding the poet so states. It was impossible not to be lured by the next word, the next beautifully crafted concept, the next thrilling stanza, the next very private poem. Max Randolph invites readers in, grabs them by the heartstrings as much as by the brain and pulls them through a universe brimming with emotion and magic and a strange sense of familiarity. It is a universe you will want to visit time and again in order to peek around the corners, peer beyond horizons and give in to the journey in order to find more treasure.
